Apiary Microfinance provides financial education, loans, and business consulting to small business owners in Guatemala.
Jeremy Stelmack (CEO); Gabriel Stelmack (COO) — lives in San Francisco.
What does a typical day look like for you?
I (Jeremy) work as a data engineer for OccasionGenius, I also manage most of the business practices for Apiary. This includes recruitment, document generation, consulting for clients, and fundraising. I enjoy playing and watching soccer, travel, and learning about the adventures of others who are seeking market solutions to social problems.
What inspired you to start your company?
My freshman year of college, I learned about the power of microfinance to generate change in the lives of disenfranchised persons around the world. My brother and I have been discussing starting a microfinance organization for several years, and, after I took a class-related trip to Guatemala, we decided to start operations there.
What are your favorite things to do?
Soccer and travel! Favorite places I’ve visited: New Zealand, the central region of Switzerland, Iceland, Lake Antigua in Guatemala, and Palawan in the Philippines.
