Uball is a new version of basketball for beaches and fields.
Tim Shields, CEO of Uball LLC.
What does a typical day look like for you?
My typical day depends on the week. This week consists of reaching out and interacting with various manufacturers we’re looking into using. In addition, we’re beginning the process of seeking a seed round of investment. While these are the two main tasks currently, some time is also devoted to running the social media pages, as well as sifting through different inquiries for collaboration opportunities for Uball.
What inspired you to start your company?
Being one of four kids, we would always find the nearest basketball court when on vacation. One day, it hit my sister and me that basketball was the only major sport that wasn’t playable at tons of locations. You needed a blacktop or gym in order to play. With that thought in mind, we built an initial prototype last summer that didn’t even have a backboard, and we’re blown away by how much interest there was, even when the prototype was ugly. It was at that moment we realized we were onto something.
What’s your favorite thing about Virginia?
I really love the schools. I was so lucky to be able to go to Atlee High School, and be surrounded by amazing teachers and classmates. After high school, I had the opportunity to attend UVA, and was able to learn so much and meet incredible people. In addition, they provided me with so many resources to help with Uball, whether it be entrepreneurship competitions or mentors. At every stage of Uball, tons of people in both the Richmond and Charlottesville areas have always been looking to help.
