What does a typical day look like for you?
Most days start pretty early getting the kids ready for school. Living in downtown Richmond, my sons’ Montessori school is nearby the Innovation Center in Church Hill. Everything’s within a mile from home, which is extremely convenient. At work, I have a few main activities that consume most of my day. Raising capital and communicating with current investors is a priority in which I spend most of my time.
Over the previous two years, much of the blueprint of our ecosystem has been completed. Now, a few hours of my day is dedicated to working with our engineering teams in New York & New Delhi to ensure our buildout is on track. Some weeks can be busy with travel across the United States meeting with VC & Private Equity groups. At least every 8 weeks we’re submitting new patent applications which requires extreme focus and detail in describing our proprietary intellectual property. Then there’s marketing, hiring and all the other tasks that come with running a business.
I’m able to pick the kids up from school most days, which is great. Probably the best perk of my job is that, as an extension of the restaurant business, it’s important that I’m out there speaking with restaurant owners, managers, chefs and employees. Richmond is our beta market where we get a feel of how we’re performing & being received. I try to enjoy all of our local restaurants and eat out several times a week. My favorite? L’ opossum in Oregon Hill – David Shannon & co put on a world-class show.
What inspired you to start your company?
Restaurants are poised to be one of the biggest benefactors of technology, but have been completely neglected by the technology revolution. The days of the POS system as the “brain” of the restaurant are numbered. By creating a supporting infrastructure in the cloud for restaurants, we open up unlimited potential to bring efficiency and profitability to operations. Our goal is to make everyone who owns or works in a restaurant’s life easier & more profitable.
What’s your favorite thing about Virginia?
Virginia is where old meets new. It’s a place where people can be whatever they want to be without forgetting who they are. A place where you can swim in the ocean and hike a mountain on the same day. Friends you meet here will be your friends always. Virginia is a special place and Richmond is the perfect home for DineGigs.
